What are some lung cancer prevention strategies
How to prevent lung cancer for life!
Lung cancer can be very fatal, so preventing lung cancer all together is ideal. The lung cancer survival rate has gone unchanged for many years because it is difficult to cure. 3 out of 5 people diagnosed with lung cancer die within a year. This is mainly because lung cancer is typically not diagnosed until the later stages. So to ensure your health, start following these lung cancer prevention techniques! They can save your life!
Every smoker does, and should, worry about how to prevent lung cancer, and the truth is STOP SMOKING. Smoking is the main cause for lung cancer. The carcinogens in the smoke are extremely bad for you, and they damage the cells around your lungs. At first, your body will be able to repair the cells, but after multiple times, your body will not be able to keep up with the damage cells anymore. As the damage worsens, the cells turn abnormal, and can eventually turn into cancer cells.
It is not 100% guarantee that if you smoke you will develop lung cancer, but smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. Is it really a risk you are willing to take? You should stop smoking right away, but if you have smoked for a long time, you will still want to get your lungs checked periodically because you could have already developed lung cancer, or it could develop later in life because you smoked.
Smoking also affects the ones around the smokers. We have all heard of secondhand smoke, but did you know you can develop lung cancer simply because of it? Secondhand smoke is almost just as dangerous, especially if you are around that person most of the time. The most dangerous part of smoking is in the smoke itself, the carcinogens. So if your loved one or a close friend smokes, try to get them stop, not only for themselves, but for you as well. If they won’t, always avoid them when they are smoking.
Unfortunately, people can also develop lung cancer even if they have never smoked and never been around smoke. Lung cancer can develop if you are around carcinogens at work. Your employer should tell you if you might be exposed to carcinogens and should take the proper precautions to make sure it doesn’t happen. Also if you home has radon in it, you may develop lung cancer. If you are in an area where radon is known to be a problem, make sure your house’s radon levels are checked.
Other ways to avoid lung cancer is to be overall healthy. Do not smoke or drink. Eat healthy food and be sure to get your fruits and vegetables in each day. Vitamins and nutrients are essential for your health, and they can reduce your risk of lung cancer. Also, exercising will help your overall fitness and healthiness. Shoot for thirty minutes a day, but if you are not already exercising, start out slow.
Be sure to follow these precaution techniques so you do not develop lung cancer. If you develop lung cancer, it will be much more difficult to get rid of it, then it is to prevent it before it happens. Treat your body with care, it is the only one you have.
